Ellie ‘Bea’ Wendell is a 21 year old artist born and raised in Massachusetts currently going to school at North Shore Community College. She’s a self taught seamstress, painter, digital, and traditional artist whose work is often inspired by both the physical and metaphysical environment “My main reason to create is to re-use. Every artwork I make is a unique and one of a kind piece I have up-cycled. Up-cycling is turning something old and unwanted into something new, and is a big part of what I do to create. I am driven to make art with up-cycled textiles due to the rising number of clothing and fabric that end up in landfills each year. (in the United States alone, 11.3 million tons of textiles end up in landfills annually) Every piece of clothing ever bought, still exists in the world today. Why not take these unwanted items and turn them into something new and beautiful. I’ve always thought it strange how even clothes that aren’t fast fashion are still disposed of so quickly. This issue is part of what inspired me to create the designs and clothing I make through up-cycling thrifted materials. I want to take fashion back into our own hands and make it affordable, sturdy, and reduce waste.”
